Our guest speaker today was our newest member of the Club, John Chereskin who gave his classification speech. John was introduced to the Club by Ed Mclaughlin with whom they share a common membership with the Knights of Columbus.
John is originally from Wisconsin but spent most of his life in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn where he was a member of their Rotary Club for several years. He described his first job as a plant accountant for company which went through several mergers & acquisitions. He went on to hold a management position with Verizon for most of his career with 31 years of service before he retired at age 59.
He met his wife on a Friday the 13th, a day before Valentines Day and they went on their first date the day after. They married in their mid-40's and therefore have no children, but they have a golden retriever and they moved to Bonnet Shores where his wife's family owned a summer cottage 3 years ago. As the saying goes, “marry a girl from RI and chances are you will end up living in RI”!
Since retiring, John has been very active volunteering for a variety of causes, and he is a regular donor at the RI Blood Center. With a background as a firefighter, John is also Chair of the Bonnet Shores Fire District. His favorite pastimes are golfing, smoking a fine cigar and an occasional scotch. This will make John a very easy person to find the perfect Christmas present.
The meeting ended with open arms and a warm welcome to our newest Club member!
