Joe Giorgio, Year Up – internships for low-income young adults
Joe Giorgio, Associate Director of Operations for Year Up - Providence. Joe has had extensive high level corporate management experience throughout his career, such as serving as Vice President of Global Human Resources for Medtronic, the giant medical device manufacturer; Human Resource  Director of Covidien, the  predecessor of Medtronic; and Human Resource director of Liz Claiborne and Rand McNally.  He joined Year Up in 2015 and has bought his vast experience to provide great insight into the management and strategic development of Year Up.
Joe will gave us insight into this wonderful national non-profit organization that provides low-income young adults in Providence, ages 18-24 with a one-year, intensive training program that includes a combination of hands-on skills development, coursework eligible for college credit, corporate internships, and wraparound support. Please see the club website for more information on Joe and Year Up Providence. click here
Joe mentioned success stories like the young man who's now  working at a bank in Westerly.  He talked about last year's trained class (Class 23) which has 95% of its interns employed or furthering their education.  Average pay of Year Up trained interns just over $16/hour or just over $33,000/yr.
