Interview: Charitable Committee Donation Recipient - Horses Bring Hope
Harv Whitley interviewed Head Instructor Dina Mancini Godinez about her non-profit Horses Bring Hope (HBH).  The committee's donation helped with the HBH special needs students' Therapeutic Riding services. Harv and Dina also discussed the extra care needed for the facility and especially the horses during the extremely cold weather this winter.  Also, HBH now has a total of 17 horses.  Two documentaries were produced about the HBH's program and students that are available online.  Click here to view the 2016 video and here to view 2017's.

Again, Deb Casey & Fran Alexakos set out the application forms for Paul Harris Award nominations of those individuals within our community who demonstrate "Service Above Self".  Rotarians are not excluded from nomination.  The application form is also available as a pdf download on Wakefield Rotary's homepage under Downloadable Files. Again, deadline to submit nominations:  the last meeting of this month, February 22.

Rotary Foundation - EREY Contribution
Co-Chairs Deb Casey and Fran Alexakos collected at this meeting--and will collect at the next few meetings--a $10 or more contribution from members for the "Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY)" program.  The goal is that our membership have 100% participation in this EREY donation.  Please contact Deb Casey <dc4of7@aol.com> for further info.
SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

number of members present:   33   /number of visiting Rotarians:  0   /number of guests:   5

Gene gave fines to:  Dennis McLeavey, Lori Horton & Jim Buchanan for being too busy with the important work they do to get to the restaurant before 12:15pm.
HAPPY BUCKS
Jim Blackerby -- Pens, pens, pens & $35 in happy bucks...so to commemorate his 35 years as a financial advisor he had pens made.  Unfortunately, 25 years of service were printed on them.  We got "free" pens!

Linda Hennessey -- regaled us with a story about her harrowing trip to Tampa, Florida, that included 12-hours stranded in Reagan International Airport,  then facing the unexpected (for her) throngs in town for the Gasparilla Pirate Fest.  Argh, Matey!

Betsy Wisehart -- she had a Florida trip, too to meet with her daughter & visit family

Dennis McLeavey -- today's guest, Dina from Horses Bring Hope, reminded Dennis of being in the Saskatchewan Province of Canada in his younger days and dealing with horses in cold weather.

Val Szlatenyi -- MOVED INTO HER NEW HOME!!!!!

Herb Mansfield --  health of his lovely wife Bernadette is improving

Jim Buchanan --  misses the foot traffic that B82enny's brought to his store before it closed...so he's promoting a raffle for an 82" flatscreen TV; he's timing this event with NCAA's March Madness basketball tournament

Joanne Daly -- is happy to have today's guest speakers present and she's been a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs for 10 years and she was a former president.

Steve White -- informed the club that HBH is the second time the club donated to such a program & he reminded us all that our support for such programs reminds the public about the good we do in our community

Karl Midunsky --  this veteran international traveler beautifully sang happy birthday in German with a perfect Bavarian accent.  Martin Vincent requested that membership should then sing that song "the right way."  Pam tried to save us--especially the guests--from such brutal behavior....but she couldn't hold back the cacophonous performance that's within every Wakefield Rotarian.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KARL!

Kim Hanson & Mary Grace Varnum, Co-Presidents
General Federation of Women's Clubs of South County

How the Greater Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) of South County makes a difference in our community.

Kim Hanson talked about the work being done by GFWC of South County and its annual events and programs.  The Women's Club of South County has raised and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars which we have matched with thousands of volunteer hours.  Our legacy community outreach programs and initiatives include:
