Presidents Announcements and Club Business: President Bob Cruz said that the URI Rotorac Club requested help with funding a number of projects they had coming up. The club approved the expenditure of $1,000.00 to be donated towards these projects. Bob also brought up a joint service project with the Cheriho, and Westerly Rotary Clubs to volunteer on a Habitat For Humanity project. Bob also gave us information about an upcoming District Rotary meeting.
Jay Shartenberg gave the club an update from a recent Events meeting, the Town of Narragansett has moved the date to use the town beach for the bumper ball challenge to early April, so the committee is looking into alternative venues and a fall date. Jay also mentioned that the club is still looking for storage for the train used in the balloon festival which is still stored at the Palisades location in Peacedale.

Ken- Now has his Rotary badge, and his family participated in an ocean access cleanup.
Mary-Nice to visit the club, her son is involved with Newport Polo Club.

Judy- baby sat a 16 month old child who got a hold of a book of matches.
Peter- his wife is retiring today.
Jay- His oldest son is having their first child.
Dr. Chris- received a basketball signed by all the URI players, and received excellent seats for the game.
PROGRAM
Our guest speaker today was Laurie Gunter Mantz, introduced by Judy Fortier. Laurie talked about Dementia Training for Life. Her website is dementiatraining4life.com.
Laurie is a licensed Occupational Therapist, Educator and Certified Dementia Care Practitioner, Trainer, Care Manager, and First Responder trainer.
Her company provides education for the proper diagnosis, care, support, and treatment for all those with all forms of dementia.
She spoke about Rhode Island Memory Café, which are for those with dementia and their caregivers. There are several in Rhode Island and they are opening up additional ones. Laurie gave us statistics and talked about healthy lifestyle choices.
When asked about diagnosis, she said it is not the problem of forgetting where you parked your car in the parking lot, but not knowing what your car keys are for. Or seeing your image in the mirror and not recognizing yourself.
Several members asked questions at the conclusion of her presentation.
