“Many children count on school for a healthy breakfast and lunch. During school vacations, the cost of food for families can increase significantly. To help ensure there is healthy food on the table during vacations, the Center provides a week’s worth of breakfast and lunch items for local children,” said Kate Brewster, executive director of the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale. “In order to ensure these items are healthy and include fresh fruit, whole grain cereal, milk, eggs, and healthy snacks, we must purchase most of the food we distribute. Last year we provided enough food for 22,000 school vacation meals to local families,” said Brewster.
