ROTARY MINUTE
Get your timers ready and set for 60-seconds.....Please read this article shared by our Past District Gov Russ Bertrand and written by Michael Brand, an Oregon City, Oregon, Rotarian (click on the title):  Why Our Service Organizations Are Dying (and how to fix them) and be prepared to participate in a quick, 5-question yes/no survey. The write up is a realistic and useful analysis which I, as club prez, take a bit of guidance from as I plan and set goals for this term.

While just a small percentage of members at the meeting had said they read the article.  A few positive emails were sent by members about the value of the article's information.

Please email Pam Ancheta, before meetings, about information to share with the club regarding fellow Rotarians who are unable to attend.

Formerly Sunshine, this part of the meeting --as was mentioned in last week's newsletter--will have it's own committee of 3 to 5 Rotarians who will explore how to make member birthdays/Rotary anniversaries/”members in the news”/member health & convalescence/member remembrance another part of our club's “service above self”.  More details will come following the July 31st meeting.
HAPPY BUCKS
Beth Leconte -- talked about URI/OLLI presentation on Aug 8 "Talking Turkey" by a former U.S. diplomat to that country & mentioned 18 OLLI members helped at the balloon fest

Betsy Wisehart -- grateful she didn't need to use a port-a-john today & mentioned she and Don Wisehart are celebrating 17 years of marriage

Spencer Seitz -- recognized all those who helped on the balloon fest and called out special recognition for The Prout School student volunteers who he says are likely the foundation of an Interact club at that school.

Glen Zibolis -- said he's grateful that the work to staff the ticket sellers/takes at the gates is over and that he didn't need to address complaints from  patrons this year

Dick Pike -- grateful to Ben Bardo for being a diligent Rotarian volunteer at the festival considering his being extremely overheated at a previous balloon fest and he told a "story" about shipping a broken vase

Beth Leconte -- returned to talk about her beloved golden retriever

Pam Ancheta -- talked about how she spent her afternoon last Tuesday at the AT&T store (in the plaza next to the Holiday Inn) explaining to kind South Kingstown police officers how her car ended up "renovating" the storefront, and still ended up conducting $600 in business with that phone company.

TODAY'S PRESENTATION -  Kington Chamber Music Festival  Performers
Kingston Chamber Music Festival Performance

Brian Mitchell from the KCMF introduced the festival players -- four saxophonists who call themselves Project Fusion .  The players are:  Dannel Espinoza, soprano saxophone; Michael Sawzin, tenor saxophone; Matt Amedio, alto saxophone; Matt Evans, baritone saxophone. The quartet played an adaptation of traditional classical chamber music; a new piece of work written last year by a French composer; and a piece written just for them.  Tickets for remaining performances were sold at a discount.
